Reflection: Take Time to Figure Things Out
During all the hustle and bustle of your day have you ever paused to consider what may be on your mind? Are there any thoughts that you have placed on the back burner that would benefit from your attention? Sometimes, you need a gentle nudge from someone with experience in combing through the tangles in order to figure out where you stand in terms of both your professional and personal life.
Aside from the fact that we all need some downtime every now and again, taking time for internal reflection is important for four main reasons:
Reflection helps give us proper perspective
Reflection lets you learn from your past mistakes
Reflection allows you to get great ideas
Reflection lets you lend a hand to others
It is important to note that our methods of internal reflection will differ from that of the next person. Some people are perfectly happy to find a sunny spot, and to just sit and think. Others need to find an alternative form of quieting the mind; often through a simple physical activity that keeps the body busy whilst opening up the mind to deeper thought.
Recently, I've taken to kayaking when I have a spare moment and I can honestly say that I couldn't have made a better choice. The sense of freedom and exhilaration is amazing. While I'm out paddling on the wide expanse of the Atlantic Ocean, I find myself digging down deep in my internal thought processes without even realising it at the time.
