The most important tool you will ever have in the recruitment process is your Curriculum Vitae. Make the most of this document; it’s the one chance you have to stand out from the crowd and get that interview you have set your sights on.

Here are a few tips to help keep your CV in check: 1. Make sure that your CV is to be relevant, concise, and current. A well-formatted CV probably won’t be the deciding factor in your job application but it always helps to make a good impression. You wouldn’t attend a job interview with your hair unwashed and your outfit a mess; don’t send your CV out looking shabby either. 2. Add a professional-looking headshot to the top of your CV. In a stack of papers that all look the same, your photograph will stand out and make you more memorable to a prospective employer at the end of the day. 3. Don’t write passive job descriptions. Instead, you should focus on your specific accomplishments in the positions you’ve held and the impact these have had within the company and on your professional development. 4. Focus on the reasons why a prospective employer should hire you. Your CV should higlight why you are a valuable asset rather than tell your life story. Place more emphasis on relevance and stop worrying about length.
5. Grammar and spelling are important; make sure to proofread your CV thoroughly. It always helps to have an extra pair of eyes, so you may want to consider having a friend or family member read through it too.
